Mepilex

CE Medical Device, class IIb. A soft, highly conformable foam dressing that absorbs exudate and maintains a moist wound environment. The Safetac layer seals the wound edges, preventing exudate from leaking onto the surrounding skin and thus minimising the risk of maceration. The Safetac layer allows the dressing to be changed without damaging the wound or the surrounding skin and without causing the patient further pain. The dressing consists of:
• a soft silicone wound contact layer (Safetac)
• a flexible absorbent polyurethane foam layer
• a breathable but waterproof outer film
On contact with the skin, Safetac dressings adhere gently but securely, without stripping layers of epidermis and without causing pain at dressing changes.

Directions for use
Clean the wound according to normal procedures. Dry the surrounding skin thoroughly. Remove the release film and apply the adhesive side to the wound. Do not stretch the dressing during application. For best results, Mepilex should overlap at least 2 cm of healthy skin around the edge of the wound. Cut the product if necessary. If necessary, secure Mepilex with a bandage or other fixation.
Mepilex can be left in place for up to 7 days, depending on the condition of the wound and the surrounding skin, and in accordance with the advice of healthcare professionals. A change in treatment is often accompanied by an increase in the level of wound exudate. Check the condition of the wound carefully.

Precautions
In case of infection, consult a doctor. Do not use Mepilex together with substances containing oxidising agents such as hypochlorite or hydrogen peroxide solutions. Store in a dry place at temperatures below 35°C (95F); do not expose to direct sunlight. Do not use the product if the packaging is damaged. Sterility is guaranteed only if the packaging is intact. Single-use product. Do not resterilise.
