DescriptionMyrtipeg works by an osmotic mechanism, retaining water in the intestine (preventing its absorption by the small intestine) and thus softening the stools. It is not absorbed, does not ferment and does not irritate the intestinal mucosa. It is eliminated unchanged in the stools. Constipation is therefore relieved by increasing the water in the faecal mass, without changes in plasma volume or loss of electrolytes.
Indicated for constipation and for bowel cleansing before colonoscopy.
How to use Dissolve one sachet in a full cup of water (at least 200/250 ml) and drink it as soon as it is prepared. It is advisable to take Myrtipeg away from meals. The dose for adults and children weighing more than 20 kg is one sachet 1-3 times a day according to individual response; in case of prolonged use, the dose can be reduced to 1 sachet 1-2 times a day, even on alternate days, preferably in the evening before going to bed. The dose for adults is one/two sachets per day according to individual response. In case of prolonged use, the dose can be reduced to one sachet once or twice a day, even on alternate days, preferably in the evening before going to bed. The daily dose for children weighing more than 20 kg should be established according to body weight: 0.5 g/kg body weight, up to a maximum of two sachets/day (corresponding to a body weight of 40 kg).
For bowel cleansing before colonoscopy: the amount should be at least 70 grams in one litre of water.
It is preferable to drink the whole amount fairly quickly, avoiding sipping it over a long time. A diet rich in fluids enhances the effect of Myrtipeg.
Myrtipeg can also be administered enterally. The contents of one or two sachets are perfectly soluble in 100/150 ml of water and can be administered as a bolus via nasogastric tube or PEG. The maximum daily dose is three sachets, and the doctor is responsible for choosing the amount of water and preparation to administer.
In children, if the problem persists despite a correct diet, stop treatment and investigate a possible underlying condition.

Laxatives must not be used by people with acute abdominal pain or pain of unknown origin, nausea, vomiting, markedly increased or reduced peristalsis, or rectal bleeding. The presence of one or more of these symptoms or signs requires appropriate diagnostic investigation by a doctor in order to rule out any of the conditions that contraindicate the use of laxatives (for example: intestinal obstruction, stenosis or perforation, paralytic ileus, severe inflammatory bowel disease). Severe dehydration.
Interactions with medicines and other forms of interaction: none reported, but Myrtipeg should be taken at least two hours apart from oral medicines.
