Floragold
Food supplement of zinc and lactoferrin with live lactic ferments.
Zinc A fundamental micronutrient for the normal development of the human body. Many enzymes contain zinc, which regulates their activity: it can hold molecular sub-units together, stabilising the protein structure itself. Within the immune system, some functions are regulated by the presence of this trace element, whose deficiency leads to weakened immune defences and an increase in infections.
Lactoferrin A glycoprotein that binds two atoms of Fe2+ and is present in breast milk and many secretions. It performs several actions, including: immunostimulant (promoting the growth and differentiation of T helper, CD4, CD8 lymphocytes and B lymphocytes, and also playing an important role in the release and regulation of chemotactic chemical mediators); an antibacterial action (by withholding free iron, which is essential for the growth of pathogenic bacteria, making them more vulnerable to the action of antibiotics, e.g. easier eradication of Helicobacter pylori when lactoferrin is taken during antibiotic therapy); an antiviral action (preventing fusion and penetration of the virus into the host cell); an antioxidant action (by chelating free iron it counteracts the formation of free radicals) and also an anti-anaemic action (the ability of this glycoprotein to chelate iron is beneficial as it increases the bioavailability of iron itself).
Live lactic ferments The main functions of the L. rhamnosus present are to rebalance the intestinal bacterial flora, help prevent the development of pathogenic bacteria, improve digestive functions by counteracting constipation, diarrhoea, abdominal bloating and bad breath, help improve lactose intolerance and help support immune defences by stimulating the production of immunoglobulins and macrophage activity. Bifidobacteria (B. longum) help prevent colonisation of the intestine by pathogenic bacteria by producing acids such as lactic acid, acetic acid and short-chain fatty acids which lower intestinal pH, as well as other substances with high disinfectant power such as hydrogen peroxide which hinder the development of pathogens. They also cooperate with lactic bacteria in restoring a correct balance of the intestinal bacterial flora. Some yeasts, such as S. boulardii, act as temporary saprophytic flora to protect the intestinal system and keep it working well. In the intestine, this yeast produces lactic acid and B vitamins and displaces harmful yeast strains. Some studies have highlighted the different mechanisms of action S. boulardii uses to eliminate pathogens, inhibit the action of toxins and restore the absorption capacity of the intestinal mucosa, while other clinical studies have also shown it to be useful in the prevention and management of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea.
FloraGold is recommended in cases of intestinal dysbiosis associated with or following drug treatment, in case of diarrhoea or constipation and in general to support normal intestinal function.
