MACULAR Bforte
Food supplement of folic acid, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin E, lutein, zinc, copper, selenium and ginkgo biloba extract. These nutrients are able to counteract the oxidative effects of free radicals, which underlie the processes of ageing and cell death and of vascular damage in the brain and various other organs. The daily diet does not always allow an adequate intake of these substances, and in the elderly the situation is worsened by their reduced absorption. The increase in oxidative phenomena, especially those linked to air pollution, smoking and sun exposure, together with the reduced availability of specific antioxidant agents, leads to an increase in degenerative conditions affecting certain eye structures with a complex energy metabolism: the retina and in particular the macular area. It is at this level that light radiation comes into contact with the photoreceptors, enabling vision. Adequate antioxidant potential is therefore needed to maintain the balance between oxidative and cellular processes in the retina.
The components of MACULAR B forte act as normalisers of physiological cellular processes:
Zinc and Copper They are involved in numerous enzymatic activities in the retina and are important in age-related degeneration.
Selenium and Vitamin E They are powerful antioxidants, essential for slowing down cell ageing processes and therefore for helping to counteract degenerative ones.
Lutein It is a xanthophyll that concentrates selectively in the retina, thus becoming the pigment of the macula lutea, where it exerts its protective action on the delicate macular structures against high-energy ultraviolet radiation.
Ginkgo Biloba It is a plant extract with a high flavonoid content, to which important activities are attributed, including in nervous tissues such as the retina. In addition to antioxidant activity in lipid peroxidation processes, it plays a leading role in the energy metabolism of the nerve cell and with regard to the enzyme aldose reductase.
Vitamins B2, B6, B12 and Folic acid They are considered a valid contribution to controlling blood homocysteine levels. These vitamins may also help minimise the risk of occlusion in the veins and arteries of the retina. A direct antioxidant action of these vitamins has also been hypothesised.
