Description Food supplement in orodispersible sachets based on boswellia extract and bromelain.
Properties Boswellia serrata: boswellia, a gum resin rich in boswellic acids, helps improve inflammatory states, including the painful component and oedema. Boswellic acids selectively inhibit the enzyme 5-lipoxygenase, responsible for the biosynthesis of leukotrienes, which facilitate inflammatory processes. They are able to inhibit elastase, enzymes that attack and damage the elastic part of tissues undergoing an inflammatory process, and they also prevent the infiltration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes, which contribute to the destruction of connective tissue. Its use is recommended in cases of pain and local and soft-tissue inflammation. Its anti-inflammatory activity is better tolerated than NSAIDs, as the typical side effects on the gastric mucosa do not occur.
Bromelain: an enzyme with mainly proteolytic activity extracted from the pineapple stem. It is mainly used for its anti-inflammatory and anti-oedema properties. It is particularly effective in inflammatory states of the soft tissues associated with trauma, in localised inflammation (especially in the presence of pre-oedema) and in post-operative tissue reactions. The safety of bromelain compared with other classic anti-inflammatory drugs stems from the difference in its mechanism of action: bromelain acts by increasing the production of anti-inflammatory prostaglandins at the expense of pro-inflammatory ones, thus avoiding the gastrointestinal damage typical of NSAIDs.
