Description
Lacriben Gel
Clear liquid eye gel based on a high molecular weight hydrophilic polymer of carboxyvinyl acid (Carbopol 980 NF polymer) with mucoadhesive properties. This gel is designed to spread rapidly across the cornea in order to reduce friction and lubricate. Its pH and osmolarity are similar to those of the normal tear film. It can be used for the treatment of dry eye, eye irritation and unstable tear film.
Carbomer is a viscoelastic polymer of acrylic acid with a gel-like structure that binds water. It is able to hydrate the epithelial surface and give structure to the aqueous phase of the tear film in a similar way to natural mucin.
In particular, on contact with the eye the gel-like structure is broken down by the electrolytes in the aqueous layer, releasing water to increase the layer. Carbomer also has excellent mucoadhesive properties that contribute to its long residence time in the eyes.
Lacriben gel compensates for tear insufficiency, relieves the symptoms of irritation resulting from dry eye syndrome and protects the cornea from dryness.
Lacriben gel forms a lubricating film with a prolonged contact time: the gel remains on the ocular surface longer than low-viscosity artificial tears, so fewer applications are needed.
Lacriben gel has a moisturising and lubricating action on the ocular surface and provides temporary relief from burning and irritation.
Lacriben gel can also be used by contact lens wearers. Apply before inserting contact lenses.
