Description

Bactigras Gauze

CE-marked medical device.
Gauze impregnated with Paraffin with Chlorhexidine Acetate; sterile (gamma-ray sterilised), single-use. Packed in an individual peel-open pouch.
Bactigras is for topical use only.
It is indicated for a wide range of wounds where there is a risk of infection, or on wounds that are already infected, in combination with a systemic antibiotic.
The range of wounds on which Bactigras can be used includes:
- minor burns and scalds,
- lacerations, abrasions and wounds with tissue loss,
- skin graft and donor sites,
- leg ulcers.
Bactigras acts as a barrier between the wound and the secondary dressing, allowing exudate to pass into the absorbent secondary dressing.
The antiseptic chlorhexidine acetate is released slowly from the dressing, providing lasting action against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria.

Directions for use
1) Clean the wound using the standard technique.
2) Select the correct dressing size and open the pouch.
3) Using gloves and forceps, remove the protective paper.
4) Place the dressing on the wound in a single layer, in direct contact with the wound surface.
5) Apply an absorbent secondary dressing if necessary and secure with a cohesive bandage (e.g. Easifix) or tape (e.g. Hypafix).
6) Removal. Bactigras can be left in situ (in place) when the secondary dressing is changed. The frequency of dressing changes depends on the clinical condition of the wound and varies from once a day to twice a week.
7) If the dressing sticks to the wound, moisten it slightly with sterile solution.

Components
Cotton gauze impregnated with white paraffin containing 0.5% chlorhexidine acetate.

Precautions for use
Bactigras should not be used on more than 10% of the total body surface area.
It should also not be used in cases of sensitivity or allergy to chlorhexidine.
Avoid contact with the eyes, middle ear, meninges and brain.
Bactigras is not compatible with soaps or other anionic substances (e.g. some skin cleansers) or with potassium iodide.
Avoid using Bactigras with oxidising substances (e.g. Eusol, hydrogen peroxide and iodine solutions).
Do not use the contents if the pack is open or damaged.
