Description Food supplement based on artichoke, milk thistle, glutathione, dandelion, phyllanthus and desmodium which, thanks to their antioxidant properties, may be useful in maintaining normal liver function.
Properties -Artichoke: artichoke contains two molecules with a high liver-protective capacity: cynarin and chlorogenic acid. Cynarin is a powerful antioxidant, promotes diuresis and bile production and secretion, and helps the intestine digest fats and absorb vitamins. Chlorogenic acid is able to bind to potentially liver-toxic compounds and promote their elimination.
-Milk thistle: contains an important liver-protective molecule: silymarin. Silymarin is able to protect the liver from toxic substances such as alcohol, medicines and pesticides introduced through the diet: this molecule works by inhibiting the peroxidation reactions of liver cell membranes caused by free radicals, and it also appears to stimulate the formation of new liver cells.
-Reduced L-glutathione: a tripeptide with very strong antioxidant properties, it is the most powerful antioxidant our body can produce on its own. Biochemically, it is involved in a great many redox reactions, thanks to the enzyme glutathione peroxidase. Redox reactions are essential both to protect delicate enzymes from the action of endogenous and exogenous peroxides, and to bind, metabolise and expel toxic catabolites and heavy metals. Most of glutathione's action takes place in the liver, where it acts as a liver protector.
-Dandelion: contains the important molecule taraxacin, with a liver-protective function: taraxacin stimulates bile production and promotes gallbladder emptying. Dandelion also contains numerous flavonoids that stimulate diuresis, supporting the body's purification.
-Phyllanthus: contains a class of molecules called tannins. Tannins increase the secretion of bile acids and have an important diuretic action, contributing to the elimination of toxic catabolites.
-Desmodium: very rich in molecules called saponins, which appear to be able to help the liver regenerate; administration of desmodium can reduce important markers of liver distress, such as bilirubin and transaminases.
