Oftaial Plus
Composition
100 ml of solution contain: sodium hyaluronate (0.4 g), taurine (0.5 g), sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, potassium chloride, monobasic sodium phosphate, dibasic sodium phosphate, water for injections.
What it is
The product is an ophthalmic solution.
Why it is used
Oftaial Plus is a hypotonic solution intended for instillation onto the ocular surface or onto contact lenses, particularly in the presence of "dry eye" symptoms.
Thanks to the high concentration of sodium hyaluronate (0.4%) and the presence of salts such as magnesium and potassium, the product moistens and lubricates the ocular surface and reduces the risk of tear film instability.
A distinctive feature of the product's composition is the presence of taurine, the physiologically most abundant amino acid in tear fluid and, in general, in all tissues of the anterior segment of the eye.
Several studies show that the presence of taurine increases the percentage of cells that survive under hyperosmolar conditions.
Hyperosmolarity of the tear film is associated with the onset of "dry eye" symptoms.
Therefore, although it has no pharmacological effect, the product protects the corneal epithelium from possible damage caused by particular conditions that may lead to so-called "dry eye", such as:
• adverse climatic and environmental conditions such as wind, cold, sun, sea salt, air conditioning, smoke, smog or fine dust;
• particular conditions of eye strain due to contact lens wear or prolonged work at computer screens or microscopes.
The lubricating action is also useful when tear production is reduced due to particular physical conditions or the use of certain medicines, for example during the menopause and during diabetes treatment.
In addition, for contact lens wearers, the product lubricates and hydrates the lens itself to make insertion or removal easier, contributing to a feeling of comfort throughout the day.
When it should not be used
Hypersensitivity to any of the components or to other chemically closely related substances.
Precautions for use
The product is for external use only.
The product should not be used immediately before the administration of therapeutic medicines, nor within ten minutes after the application of any topical drug therapy.
To reduce the risk of contamination, each bottle should be used by one person only.
Avoid direct contact of the dropper tip with fingers, the eye, contact lenses or any other surface.
Also prevent the dropper from coming into contact with dirt or dust.
How often and for how long it should be used
Oftaial Plus should be dosed individually according to your condition and the recommendations of your eye specialist.
In general, instil 1-2 drops of the solution into the conjunctival sac of each eye when needed, even several times a day.
For use on contact lenses: instil one drop on each lens at insertion or removal.
Repeat as needed, even several times a day.
How to apply Oftaial Plus
Open the bottle by moving the protective tab.
Remove the cap.
Pressing the upside-down bottle, instil 1-2 drops of product into the conjunctival sac of each eye, letting them fall from above.
Always close the bottle with its cap after use.
Do not damage or dismantle the bottle and do not damage or mechanically block the dropper opening.
For use with contact lenses: instil one drop of product into the hollow of each lens at insertion or removal.
Side effects
In rare cases slight blurring of vision has been observed on instillation, due to the density of the solution.
However, this sensation disappears very quickly.
In some rare cases intolerance (burning and/or irritation) may occur, which has no consequences and does not require any change of treatment.
However, it is advisable to contact your eye specialist if symptoms persist.
Following the instructions in the package leaflet reduces the risk of side effects.
Expiry and storage
The product should be stored at a temperature between 2°C and 25°C.
The solution should be used within 8 weeks of first opening the bottle.
After this period, discard any remaining product.
Caution
Do not use the solution after the expiry date shown on the pack.
The expiry date refers to the intact, correctly stored product.
Keep out of the reach of children.
Do not use the product if the bottle is damaged.
Do not squeeze the bottle when it is closed with the cap.
