Acetyl L-carnitine (ALC): acetyl L-carnitine, obtained by esterifying L-carnitine with an acetyl group, is a source of L-carnitine for the body. Acetyl L-carnitine has a neuroprotective activity. L-carnitine has antioxidant effects in the body. The acetyl component of acetyl L-carnitine contributes to the synthesis of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine.

Nervonic acid: nervonic acid is a long-chain monounsaturated fatty acid. It is significantly present in nerve tissue and in the white matter of the brain. Nervonic acid is an important precursor in the biosynthesis of myelin. It can increase glutathione in the brain by increasing gamma-glutamylcysteine ligase, the enzyme responsible for the first step of its biosynthesis. Thanks to its neuroprotective and neurotrophic action, nervonic acid can be used in food supplements: it strengthens intercellular signal transmission, helping to maintain the proper functioning of the myelin sheath, which is essential for the transmission of nerve impulses.
