Description

IODOSORB

CE medical device. Antiseptic dressing based on cadexomer technology: it absorbs exudate and releases iodine in a controlled way.
Indicated for the local treatment of chronic exuding wounds. IODOSORB can be used under compression therapy. IODOSORB can be used on infected wounds. When the product is used on infected wounds.

Directions for use
Application
Wash your hands thoroughly before and after application. After putting on gloves, clean the wound and the surrounding area with a gentle stream of water or saline solution. Do not dry the wound surface. Remove the gauze from both sides of the single-dose paste or open the pack (sachet or aluminium tube). Shape the dressing to the wound surface. Cover the wound completely with a suitable secondary dressing. Apply a compression bandage where indicated.
Changing
IODOSORB should be changed when it is saturated with exudate and has released all the iodine. This is indicated by loss of colour, usually two or three times a week. If the wound is heavily exuding, it may be necessary to change the dressing every day. If necessary, moisten the residue for a few minutes before removing it. Gently remove IODOSORB using a stream of water or saline solution. Before reapplying IODOSORB, gently absorb any excess fluid, leaving the wound surface slightly moist.

Warnings
There is a potential risk of interaction with lithium, resulting in a greater likelihood of hypothyroidism. Do not use IODOSORB together with mercurial antiseptics or taurolidine. Bear in mind possible interference with thyroid function tests in case of diagnostic thyroid investigations.

Contraindications
IODOSORB must not be used on dry necrosis, nor in patients with known hypersensitivity to iodine or to any of its components. Do not use IODOSORB in children, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or in people with thyroid or kidney disorders (for example Hashimoto's thyroiditis or non-toxic nodular goitre).

Precautions for use
The contents of a single pack must be used for one patient only. Do not use IODOSORB near the eyes, ears, nose or mouth. The product is for external use only. In the first hour after application, IODOSORB may cause mild, transient pain. This indicates that the product is starting to cleanse the wound. Occasionally IODOSORB may cause swelling or redness of the surrounding skin. This effect is usually transient. Contact of the product with the surrounding skin or intact skin should be kept to a minimum. When IODOSORB is allowed to dry out, an adherent crust may form.
